United Way to Kick-Off Annual Campaign

8/29/2017

Staff of the United Way of Greater Oswego County meet with United Way Campaign Cabinet Chairperson Dick Delaney of Novelis Fulton, NY ? United Way of Greater Oswego County officially begins its 2018 Annual Campaign with a kick-off breakfast on September 13 at the American Foundry in Oswego. The event will introduce the theme to this year?s United Way Campaign; ?Together We Stand United.?

The new theme, ?Together We Stand United? emphasizes the strength of working together and the positive impact it has on the mission of United Way of Greater Oswego County.

?It may sound clich?, but working together is far more effective than working individually,? said United Way Campaign Assistant Kay Duguay. ?Coming together as a community for the common good is a benchmark of United Way. Our mission of ending hunger, helping youth succeed and building healthier communities is achievable if we all work together in whatever capacity we can.?

?There are many ways to support United Way. For some it?s volunteering their time and talents to further the success of the many programs United Way funds. For others it?s through donations, whether individually or as part of workplace campaign, these donations go far in providing funding for programs that are vital to our mission.?

Duguay added that the United Way?s Campaign Cabinet, consisting of community volunteers Sue Cahill (Pathfinder Bank), Todd Fiorenza (Exelon Generation), Clark Stanton (OVIA), Rob Rolfe (Harmony Financial), and Chairperson Dick Delaney (Novelis) have put together a kick-off agenda that highlights the positive impact that United Way and the many programs it funds has on those they serve. To emphasize that impact the committee reached out to Oswego County Department of Social Services Commissioner Stacy Alvord.

Alvord, who holds a BA in Public Justice from SUNY Oswego and a MS in social work from Syracuse University, has work in the social services field for almost four decades. Alvord has advocated at the national, state and local level for high impact programs that reach the poorest and most vulnerable individuals.

?Stacy made her first donation to United Way thirty-seven years ago and is still a strong supporter of our efforts and the many United Way funded programs offered through our partner agencies,? added United Way Resource Development Director Ali McGrath. ?The combination of her extensive experience and her knowledge of our communities will make for an enlightening presentation on how United Way is vital to the quality of life in Oswego County.?

The United Way of Greater Oswego County 2018 Campaign Kick-Off Breakfast will be held September 13 from 8:00 ? 9:00 a.m. at the American Foundry, 246 West Seneca St. (behind Fajita Grill on Route 104 West) in Oswego.
